Firstly, I run a security firm. We provide security services for lots of office buildings around Manchester. Many of those buildings host law firms. I have noticed several of those firms constantly downsizing.

Some of them will relocate to the city centre claiming that the reason they were not attracting enough clients was because they are located outside of the city centre. Therefore, they believe that when they locate to the High Street, clients will be climbing over themselves to go to their firms.

However, as they got to discover later their inability to attract clients had nothing to do with their location but their inability to sell. Those that survive the city centre onslaught, relocated back to our premises.

Secondly, when I started law firm marketing and consulting, I came to discover that most law firms are struggling because their owners and partners lack the ability to make the distinction between the profession of law and the business of law.

There is a difference!

The profession of law is the deliverables: defending the client in court, writing contract and briefs on behalf of the client or representing the interest of the client.

The business of law on the other hand is about three things:
