      Sir Terry discovered that Tesco core customers at that time were working class people who would like to sneak out of their office during lunch to grab a quick bite.   

      What they were not going to appreciate was spending fifteen to twenty minutes of their lunch break in a supermarket queue.

There is a very important lesson in Sir Terry’s strategy and it is the common trend that runs through all phenomenon in retail success.

 What he did was first asked the question: who do we serve? 

Then he proceeded to redesign Tesco stores to appeal to his chosen target market.
